Vaccine ad campaign draws consumer complaint

By André Picard

A consumer group has filed a complaint with Health Canada, saying an advertising campaign promoting the new childhood vaccine Prevnar is in "flagrant violation" of regulations restricting advertising of prescription drugs to the public.

The drug maker rejects the charge. And Health Canada says that, while it will investigate the complaint thoroughly, it appears the ad is all right because the product is used for "public-health reasons."
