Media Advisory – New Report Reveals Costs & Consequences of Private Health Care in Canada

TORONTO, June 9, 2017  – The Ontario & Canadian Health Coalitions are releasing a significant new report revealing the results from surveys of hundreds of Ontario patients and private health care clinics across Canada. The report looks at the impact of user fees and extra-billing of patients and the implications for Public Medicare in Canada. Major legal challenges to Public Medicare in Canada have come to a head with hundreds of thousands of patients in Quebec having taken action at federal court, private clinics bringing a charter challenge in British Columbia and the government of Saskatchewan passing legislation that contravenes the Canada Health Act.
