Navigating Canada’s health care system can be challenging for anyone. Wakil Ahmad Kakar, a medical graduate and clinical assistant based in Markham, Ontario, has written a guide on walk-in clinics for newcomers. He hopes that it increases health literacy and health care access for immigrant communities in Canada.

“Moving to a new country comes with many challenges, and health care is often one of them. Many new immigrants when they become sick or need medical advice may not know how to get medical assistance. That is where walk-in clinics become very useful,” writes Kakar in the guide.

For Kakar, “At first, navigating health care in a foreign country can be overwhelming, but walk-in clinics make it easier for newcomers in Canada to access medical help quickly. They are a great option if you don’t yet have a family doctor and you are ill, hurt, or in need of medical advice.”
