Pharmacare is at risk. Act now to protect it.

Prime Minister Carney promised to protect national pharmacare and continue negotiating new agreements with provinces and territories. That promise appears to be in serious jeopardy.

Comments by Health Minister Marjorie Michel strongly suggest that the Carney government has cut the funding urgently needed to complete new pharmacare agreements. Only three provinces and 1 territory have signed on, leaving 4 out of 5 Canadians without free access to contraceptives and diabetes medications like insulin.
New Brunswick has been in negotiations to join the program, but says the deal is stalled because the federal government is not offering enough support to move forward.

The last federal budget allocated just $1.5 billion over five years for pharmacare. That is a small fraction of the more than $50 billion transferred to provinces each year through the Canada Health Transfer.

If the government walks away from this commitment, millions of people will be denied access to medications they need.

Here’s how you can take action

Send a message to Prime Minister Mark Carney and Health Minister Marjorie Michel calling on them to protect pharmacare funding and deliver on their promise to expand access to essential medications. Your local MP will also receive a copy of your message so they know this issue matters to their constituents.

The message is already written. All you need to do is add your name and address, then click send. It only takes a minute, but it sends a powerful signal that Canadians are paying attention.

Send your message now

Millions of people are counting on pharmacare to make their medications affordable. The government must act now. Send your message today and help protect this vital program.
