Health care is increasingly under attack in war zones, despite this being in clear violation of international law. Doctors, nurses and other health care workers have been beaten, arbitrarily arrested, kidnapped, tortured, and killed. Hospitals and ambulances have been deliberately attacked.

Join Dr. Yipeng Ge, Dr. Safa Elhassan, Sonal Marwah and Michael Lynk for a conversation about health care workers in war zones with the Canadian Health Coalition’s Anne Lagacé Dowson on Monday, November 24 at 12:00 PM ET on Zoom.

Dr. Yipeng Ge is an Ottawa-based primary care physician and public health practitioner. He is an outspoken advocate for anti-racism and decolonization in medicine, and has recently volunteered to provide health care in Gaza.

Dr. Safa Elhassan is a Halifax-based obstetrician and gynaecologist who has worked with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Kordofan in Sudan, and clinical MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology through the Sudan Medical Specialization Board.

Sonal Marwah recently returned from a 11 month assignment in Sudan with Médecins Sans Frontières as Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator. Having worked across Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Canada, Sonal’s work spans protection of civilians and health care in contexts of armed conflict.

Professor Michael Lynk is a professor emeritus in the Faculty of Law at Western University, where he taught courses on labour, human rights, disability, constitutional and administrative law. From 2016 to 2022, he served as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territory.

Webinars are recorded for later viewing on the Canadian Health Coalition’s youtube channel.
