Tell the PM: Everyone deserves access to pharmacare
Nearly one year ago, on October 10, 2024, the Pharmacare Act became law, committing the government to cover the costs of diabetes medications and contraception for all Canadians.
Earlier this year on the campaign trail, Prime Minister Mark Carney pledged to protect pharmacare.
In September, after months of silence and mounting pressure from pharmacare advocates, he confirmed that his government is committed to signing new agreements.
Yet despite these commitments, only three provinces and one territory (PEI, Manitoba, British Columbia and Yukon) have signed agreements. All of these deals were signed before the new Liberal government took office.
Currently, 4 out of 5 Canadians do not have access to national pharmacare.
The impact is significant. About 4 million Canadians live with diabetes and 9 million use contraception. When people cannot afford these essential medications, they often ration, skip doses, or go without. This puts their health at serious risk and leads to complications that ultimately cost the health care system far more.
Ensuring access to these medications today will save both lives and money.
That’s why the Canadian Health Coalition, Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions, Canadian Labour Congress, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Public Service Alliance of Canada, National Union of Public and General Employees, Service Employees’ International Union West, Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, and Canadian Union of Public Employees have come together to launch Everyone Deserves Access, a national pharmacare awareness campaign to urge the Liberal government to keep their promise and deliver pharmacare to all Canadians.

Here’s how you can help us take action
Send a letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney calling on him to deliver the life-saving medications he promised Canadians. Tell him to bring pharmacare to all Canadians, not just those who live where deals were signed before he became Prime Minister.
When you participate, your letter is sent directly to Prime Minister Carney and Health Minister Marjorie Michel, with a copy also going to your local MP so they know this issue matters to their constituents.
The letter is already written. All you need to do is add your name and information, then click send. It only takes a minute, but it sends a powerful signal that Canadians are paying attention.
Pharmacare isn’t complete until it covers all of us. Send your letter today and help ensure everyone has access to the medications they deserve.
