Canadian Health Coalition Chairperson Pauline Worsfold, RN, and Friends of Medicare Executive Director Chris Gallaway were among those awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal on October 17 in Edmonton.

The medal is awarded to people who make outstanding positive contributions to the community. Worsfold and Gallaway are both strong champions of universal public health care in Alberta and beyond. Sarah Hoffman, NDP MLA for Edmonton-Glenora, nominated the pair for their contributions to public health care.

Worsfold is long-time registered nurse in the post-anesthetic recovery room at a hospital in Edmonton. Besides being the chairperson of the Canadian Health Coalition, she is the Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU), a position she was first elected to hold in 1999. Pauline has received many awards for exemplary commitment and contributions to the community and her union.

Gallaway is a long-time health care and labour advocate, and community organizer. Born and raised on a farm in rural Saskatchewan, he has since spent most of his adult life living on Treaty 6 territory, first in Saskatoon, and for the last decade in Edmonton. Gallaway has worked for the Alberta Federation of Labour, in three provincial legislative assemblies, and for non-profit and community organizations. Gallaway also serves on the board of directors of the Canadian Health Coalition.

The public has an opportunity to hear both Worsfold and Gallaway speak at a virtual lunch and learn on Expanding the Medicare Umbrella on October 25 at 2:00pm ET (12:00pm Mountain Time). The event is hosted by the Alberta Federation of Labour.
