American-backed think tanks are openly praising Canada’s lack of intervention on Alberta’s two-tier health care reforms. Who are they? And why should we be concerned?

On Nov. 3, 2026, Canadian Health Coalition’s Anne Lagacé Dowson hosted a conversation on the topic with writer Christopher Holcroft, Ontario Health Coalition’s Natalie Mehra and Council of Canadians’ Nikolas Barry-Shaw. The webinar is now available for viewing here:

The webinar was timely with SecondStreet.org, the Canadian Constitution Foundation and the Montreal Economic Institute holding a two-day event Nov. 6-7 at the exclusive Albany Club in Toronto. Read Chris Holcroft’s commentary, “Enemies of Public Health Care Roost in Toronto.”

Holcroft wrote, “As with standing up to Trump, Canadians are seemingly more resolute than many of their politicians in defending medicare. Still, with relentless efforts by U.S.-funded Canadian think tanks to profit off private care, they are going to have to be.

The fight for medicare is not over yet.”
