Colleen Fuller on the Canada Health Act principle of universality
Colleen Fuller, health policy researcher and writer, joined the Canadian Health Coalition’s Anne Lagacé Dowson to discuss the principle of universality in the Canada Health Act on April 30 on Zoom. The video of the webinar is now available for viewing here –
Colleen Fuller has written extensively about Canada’s health care system, including access to safe and effective prescription drugs and medical devices. Her work includes The Bottom Line: The Truth Behind Private Health Insurance in Canada (with Diana Gibson, 2006), and The Push to Prescribe: Women & Canadian Drug Policy (co-author, 2010).
“We have a struggle ahead of us to ensure universality in the health care system,” said Fuller, noting entrenched interests like the private health insurance industry that oppose universal health care.
“More people are being exposed to the brutality of the private health care market,” said Fuller as she called for pharmacare to be universal.
The Canadian Health Coalition is hosting a webinar series to mark the 40th anniversary of the Canada Health Act. The series will focus on the 5 principles of the Canada Health Act.
