The Ontario Health Coalition is hosting an emergency summit on health care privatization and an urgent call for Ontarians who want to safeguard and improve our public health care for people not for profit.

The Ford government is planning serious health care privatization unless we stop them, including:

  • planning to give thousands of long-term care beds to for-profit corporations for the next 30 years;
  • planning the for-profit privatization of public hospital services including surgeries and diagnostics;
  • planning to privatize the last remaining public parts of home care, among others….

It stops now. Amazing line up of speakers who have successfully stopped privatization in Ontario’s health care and/or are leaders in the fightback, including:

Dr. Nancy Olivieri, Haematologist, researcher who fought for 25 years for the public interest and patient safety against the pharmaceutical industry; Dr. Melanie Bechard, chair Canadian Doctors for Medicare; Michael Hurley, President OHCU/CUPE; Natalie Mehra, executive director, OHC; lawyer Steven Shrybman; Dr. Vivian Stamatopoulos, professor, researcher, advocate; Zaid Noorsmoor, investigative journalist.

Wednesday, November 17 at 7 PM ET via Zoom

Also on Wednesday, November 17, an hour later at 8 pm ET, Canadian Doctors for Medicare are hosting a discussion on the future of Canada’s public health care system.

Health policy experts and frontline workers will lead the discussion and share their insights on why services like dental care, mental health care, and other critical services need to be better integrated into our public health care system.

Public Webinar: Better Medicare – The future of public health care in Canada

They are taking the opportunity to step back and take a look at our public health care system and acknowledge some of the gaps or cracks that have been exposed in the last 18 months. What communities are underserved? What services are not covered? How can we take better care of one another?

This conversation will kickstart their work to make Medicare better – both improving the care already covered and expanding what services are included.

Wednesday, November 17 at 8 PM ET via Zoom
