Dear friend,

First, let me thank you for supporting the Canadian Health Coalition. Since 1979 we have brought together frontline health workers, community activists, and experts dedicated to protecting, defending and expanding public health care. Every day we work to prevent the big corporations and conservative political forces from privatizing and profiting from our cherished Medicare.

As we emerge from the devastating pandemic, systemic gaps in Medicare have not been addressed. Our health care system remains underfunded, and those health care providers who remain on duty are exhausted and frustrated. All the while, pharmaceutical companies, private labs, and investment firms wring their hands at the opportunity to profit from this crisis.

But there is reason to be hopeful. On March 22, 2022, the minority Liberals and the NDP came together in a new agreement that has the potential to expand our public health care system dramatically. The “Confidence and Supply Agreement,” or CASA, will keep the Liberals in power for three years through the NDP’s support in exchange for progress before the next election on several key policy issues that are shared Liberal-NDP priorities.

At our recent Board meeting in Ottawa, everyone agreed that this political accord has the potential to deliver significant improvements in public health care for patients, families, and frontline workers. But there is a lot of work to ensure these promises are kept and delivered. The Canadian Health Coalition is ready to play its part.

We have assembled a new team of highly-skilled and experienced staff members to work with our Board, member organizations, and allies. Together, we will deliver health and hope to everyone in Canada by ensuring that the promises made in the Liberal-NDP accord are delivered by the end of 2025. That’s why we call this 3-year strategy “Health and Hope 2025.”

Read the goals of Health and Hope 2025, drawn from the commitments made in the Liberal-NDP accord.

I look forward to your ongoing participation and contribution so that we can take advantage of this important opportunity to make the biggest, most significant expansion of public health care in a generation.
