The Liberal government’s roadmap for the 44th Parliament was laid out in the Throne Speech on November 23, read by Governor General Mary Simon. The title of the speech was “Building a resilient economy: a cleaner & healthier future for our kids.”

The Canadian Health Coalition comprises organizations representing frontline health care workers, community groups and experts who advocate for the preservation and improvement of universal public health care across Canada.

Here are reactions to the Throne Speech from the CHC and some of its members:

#Thronespeech promises "Action on our collective health and well-being," but where is action on health care crisis? #Pharmacare? #LTC? Exhausted health care workers and everyone in Canada need federal leadership for a stronger public health care system #cdnpoli

Canada’s unions were listening closely to the #ThroneSpeech & welcome the govt’s commitments to make life more affordable with investments in housing & child care. Need to hear more soon about #EI reform & implementing #pharmacare. #canlab #cdnpoli #SFT https://t.co/3cetCG7Byp

#ThroneSpeech: Nurses are pleased to hear that the government intends to strengthen our health system and improve health data, but we are disappointed they have failed to recognize – and commit to fixing – Canada’s worsening nursing shortage. #cdnpoli https://t.co/c3mHRM8PZn

We can’t afford for the federal government to take a back seat with something as all-important as our public health care system.
