National Director of Development and Community Engagement of the Canadian Health Coalition (CHC)

Job term:                     Full-time, Permanent

Reports to:                  Board of Directors, Chairperson

Salary/benefits:          $82,415.11 per annum with benefits, plus 7% of wages in RRSP contributions. This position will be covered by the Unifor collective agreement for Local 567.

SCOPE OF POSITION:

For over forty years, the Canadian Health Coalition (CHC) has been working to protect and improve public health care in Canada. We are a coalition of health care workers, seniors, unions, community organizations, faith-based organizations and academics, as well as affiliated coalitions in the provinces and territories.

With oversight from the Board of Directors, the National Director of Development and Community Engagement is responsible for establishing the coalition’s strategic priorities, fundraising and community engagement priorities and initiatives, including developing and implementing donor acquisition, donor stewardship, individual and institutional fundraising, and digital engagement. The National Director of Development and Community Engagement is also responsible for representing CHC to donors, supporters, activists and the public.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the CHC Board and National Directors in the development and implementation of the CHC’s fundraising and community engagement, operation plan, strategic priorities and objectives.
  • Develop fundraising guidelines that ensure CHC’s fundraising and community engagement strategies and activities align with the coalition’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.
  • Design and lead fund development initiatives such as maintaining and expanding monthly donors and other planned giving, individual giving, sponsorships, foundation grants, and legacy giving.
  • Develop, design and coordinate the production of fundraising and community engagement material (e.g. fundraising appeals, thank-you letters, grant proposals and reporting, etc.).
  • Network, consult and liaise with members, donors, supporters, activists, volunteers, allies and others regarding CHC fundraising and engagement campaigns.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate fundraising activities and digital engagement campaigns to preserve, improve and expand Canada’s public health care system.
  • Create and implement strategies to communicate to donor groups to ensure they receive relevant, accurate and timely information about the impact of their giving.
  • Cultivate donors by creating and implement strategies to communicate to donor groups to ensure they receive relevant, accurate and timely information about the impact of their giving.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to move people up the engagement ladder.
  • Research and engage potential donors and donor leads (individual and institutional), including working with the National Directors and board members to identify and cultivate new donor prospects.
  • Systematize, maintain and enhance donor tracking mechanisms. Develop a strategy to optimize and leverage existing donor data.
  • Ensure effective metrics and evaluation are in place to track progress, insight and performance of fundraising and community engagement activities
  • Track fundraising trends in the non-profit sector and adapt work to these changes.
  • Support advocacy activities and public education campaigns to preserve, improve and expand Canada’s public health care system.

KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Relevant university degree(s) and/or commensurate experience in fundraising and community engagement.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience, especially in an advocacy organization, association, or union.
  • French language an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Familiarity with current topics in public health care policy and issues confronting health care workers and patients, including systemic racism, the Canada Health Act, pharmacare, long-term care, and public vs for-profit health care.
  • Strong organizational skills and project management abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize as well as adapt to changing situations, new ideas and concepts.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a flat management structure.
